Using web 2.0 to support online collaboration

Web 2.0 technologies and open source Elgg social networking software have been shown to support student voice, facilitate online collaboration and engage pupils in creating online content. Damian will consider aspects of these tools, such as blogging and wikis, that may prove useful in targeting literacy in an innovative way. He will also consider how Elgg has been integrated with Moodle and e-portfolio platform Mahara to create an holistic learning environment.

SoundCloud for education

Whether you want to distribute recordings of lectures, facilitate receiving audio for students or communicate between students and teachers, SoundCloud can help. Hannah will describe some use cases for SoundCloud, such as uploading lectures and pushing them to relevant social networks, websites and iTunes, documenting lessons and communication.

An international presenter on the power of tablet devices in education, Fraser will tell the story of the world’s first one-to-one Apple iPad deployment at Cedars School of Excellence. He will cover the motivation for the project, its success and some of the insights it has given the school over the past 18 months.
